CAD Designer / BIM Technician
Overview
A full-time, permanent opportunity is available for a CAD Designer / BIM Technician to support a portfolio of water and wastewater treatment projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, development and management of engineering drawings and BIM models across all stages of project delivery. The role involves close collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, Process and Automation Engineers to produce high-quality design documentation for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, reservoirs, treatment plants and associated infrastructure.
A strong understanding of engineering design principles, industry standards and BIM methodologies is required, together with previous experience working within the water and wastewater industry.
Key Responsibilities
CAD Design
- Produce detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and BIM software.
- Develop and maintain:
- Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- General Arrangement Drawings
- Site Layout Drawings
- Mechanical Arrangement Drawings
- Pipework Layouts
- Civil Engineering Drawings
- As-Built Drawings
- Ensure all drawings comply with project standards, client specifications and relevant industry regulations.
BIM & 3D Modelling
- Develop and maintain 3D models for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Create coordinated BIM models integrating civil, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines.
- Perform clash detection and design coordination exercises.
- Participate in BIM review meetings and design workshops.
- Generate drawing outputs directly from BIM models.
- Assist in the implementation and development of BIM standards and procedures.
- Support projects in accordance with ISO 19650 BIM requirements where applicable.
Design Coordination
- Liaise with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Automation and Civil Engineers to develop coordinated designs.
Documentation & Quality Control
- Maintain drawing registers and document control procedures.
- Ensure drawings are issued in accordance with Quality Management Systems.
- Manage revision control and document updates.
Software Requirements
Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD
- Plant 3D
- Autodesk Revit
- Navisworks
- BIM 360
- Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering, CAD, BIM, Design Technology or a related discipline.
- Relevant CAD/BIM certification is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years' experience in a CAD Design or BIM role.
- Previous experience within the water and wastewater industry.
- Experience producing engineering drawings for treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs or utility infrastructure projects.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
