Role Overview

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for developing, reviewing, and delivering electrical system designs for construction or engineering projects. The role ensures all electrical designs are technically sound, compliant with regulations, coordinated with other disciplines, and aligned with project requirements. It involves producing detailed drawings, load calculations, technical reports, and design specifications while supporting the wider project team through all design stages.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency systems, ICT, and other building services.
• Produce drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation using design software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
• Perform electrical calculations such as load assessments, cable sizing, voltage drop, short circuit, and protection coordination.
• Review project specifications, client requirements, and applicable standards to ensure full compliance.
• Coordinate designs with mechanical, structural, architectural, and other engineering disciplines.
• Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities, technical submissions, and tender documentation.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Respond to RFIs, resolve design issues, and provide technical support to project teams and site personnel.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, and suppliers to ensure the design meets all performance and quality expectations.
• Ensure all design stages—concept, preliminary, detailed, and construction—are delivered on time and to high quality.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux/Relux, and electrical design software.
• Understanding of electrical codes and standards (IEC, BS7671, local regulations).
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to produce clear, accurate technical documentation.
• Strong coordination and teamworking abilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in electrical design (depending on seniority).
• Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, residential, industrial, or data centre projects.
• Knowledge of relevant standards and design methodologies.
• Chartered or professional membership is an advantage.
